Our Help

Last week, I attended a prayer session and one of the scriptures we read was 2 Kings 6:27. He answered, “If the Lord doesn’t help you, what can I do? I have neither food from the threshing floor nor wine from the press to give you.

And I began to think how alot of times we look to those around us for help, our spouses, friends, siblings, colleagues, our pastors and even our jobs. We believe when they seemingly are in a position to help they should help us. Then; when they do not help us we start to feel disappointed and let down. As I was meditating on all of these, I was drawn to Psalm 121, the first verse says I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there?  My help comes from the Lordwho made heaven and earth. It doesn't say my help comes from the mountain though that's where I am looking to for help. No; it says my help comes from God who made the Heavens and the earth. Help can only come from God; and if the Lord doesn't help us, who will?

The truth is that when we begin to place our hope on those around us or begin to look to them to help us, we are placing them as God. Only God can help us, no one else. When our eyes are fixed and focused on Him, He uses those around us as His instruments to help us. When we take our eyes off those who we feel are in a position to help us, and look to God instead, we are saying 'God I trust you to take me through' and He is obligated to respond to our every need.

On Friday, I was chatting with my brother inlaw and I was sounding so tensed up in my chats with him. I had been expecting some news and my focus had been on a certain individual. My brother inlaw said this to me 'you need to relax and rest a bit, even the birds of the air don't worry as much' Hmmm! Those words got me thinking and I realized my focus had shifted from God who is my help to someone else. So I repented and said 'You're still God and you're able to take me through. My help comes from you' I said to God, if you don't help me who will?  This was about 2:30pm. I left it there and at about 8:30pm I received a text message confirming the answer I had been wanting to hear for over 2 weeks. Halleluyah

It was not until I took my focus from an individual and looked up to God that He came through for me and gave me the answer I so needed to hear.

God is our help, He will not let us slumber, He will keep us from all harm, He will watch over us and stand beside us as a protective shield.

He's just waiting for us to look up to Him rather than our jobs or anyone else.

Would you?

Just my thoughts
Eloho
